  • Aluminum foil
  • Spackling (from Dollar Tree)
  • Tube of confetti
  • Silver glitter
  • Paper straws
  • Puffy fabric paint
  • Brown clay (air dry or bake)
  • Small gingerbread cookie cutter
  • Pastry bag (with tip you like best)

  • Collect all your supplies.
Step one is to collect all your supplies.
  • Roll out a small amount of brown clay, you just need enough to be able to cut out the top half of your gingerbread cookie cutter. Make it just a bit thinner than you would real cookie dough. Bake or air dry according to package directions.
Step three is to cut out the gingerbread man.
  • Use fabric paint with the fine tips to create eyes, a mouth, buttons, and white icing around the edges of your half gingerbread man, allow the paint to dry completely.
Step nine is to decorate your gingerbread man and insert into the mug topper.
  • Flip your mug upside down on the aluminum foil and trace around it to get the shape.
Step four is to outline your mug on foil.
  • Add a teaspoon of white paint to your can of spackle and a bit of silver glitter if desired to give it some pretty shine, stir well with a craft stick.
Step two is to mix the glitter into your spackle.
  • Open your pastry bag and slip it inside your mug, fill with spackle.
Step five is to put your spackle into a cake decorating bag with a tip.
  • Start in the middle of the circle you traced on your aluminum foil and create a pretty pile of whip cream, stopping higher in the center, make it just slightly larger than the circle you traced.
Step six is to squeeze the spackle out of the back onto the foil outline.
  • Sprinkle red and green tube confetti on your “whipped cream” for sprinkles, you don’t want to use real ones even though they look nice because they will decompose over time and also attract bugs.
Step seven is to add sprinkled over the top of your spackle mug topper.
  • Cut a straw down and slip carefully into one side of the whipped cream.
Step eight is to insert the straw into the topper.
  • On the other side slide in your hardened gingerbread cookie towards the back at a slight angle, you will need to prop it up with something to hold it in place while it dries.
Step nine is to decorate your gingerbread man and insert into the mug topper.
  • Let your topper dry in an undisturbed area for 24-48 hours, it may take a bit longer for the underside to completely dry.
